February 2010

Welcome to the February edition of the Peterborough Workspace Newsletter.

Well, we seemed to have survived the snow and ice here at Workspace House without any major problems and are now looking forward to the green shoots of spring which hopefully will coincide with the green shoots of an economic recovery! The last two years or so have been extremely hard for many small businesses where even survival has been a major achievement but we sincerely hope that the support we and our network of contacts have been able to give to businesses here has contributed to them being in a position to move forward as economic conditions really do improve.

Following the usual quiet period over Christmas, activity has picked up and I'm cautiously optimistic about some of the new tenant approaches we have had. We've welcomed into Workspace House Tom Critchell of Tom Critchell Photography and Katie Amps and her team who trade under the title Life Magazine Group. Katie is a great example of the type of tenant who comes to us in that she initially set up and ran her business from home, actually her bedroom. She was so successful that she eventually had four people working in her bedroom before she decided that she really had to take her first step into more commercial premises!

We've said goodbye to Graham Wild of the Book People who has decided to take a well earned retirement as well as Quad Bikes who's new range of bikes were a little too big for the area they had here! We've also seen further examples of existing tenants switching into different or, indeed, extra units which are more suitable for their current and anticipated trading requirements. This continues to demonstrate the flexibility that we offer here.

Overall we now have four units vacant at the present time, details of which can be seen on our available space page.

We were also very pleased to welcome Gillian Beasley, Chief Executive of Peterborough City Council and Steve Compton, Chief Executive of Opportunity Peterborough to Workspace House who were very interested in what we were doing here, particularly our pleasing occupancy levels given the tough trading conditions that are around at the moment.

As ever I am grateful to Peter Mulhall of Business Link, a very important member of our network of very supportive contacts for the businesses here for providing a further article designed to help small businesses with their all important marketing ideas. This month's article is entitled “Public Relations” which seeks to give an initial insight to how this sometimes mysterious world works - please click on the link to access the article.

Peterborough Workspace is ideal for those businesses working from home who want to get to the next level. If you are aware of any such business which would benefit from the services which we provide please refer them directly to me.
